my Homestudioguy "$50" Recording Studio Desk
(Keyboard Tray Not Included)
Pictured below is my "$50 Recording Studio Desk/Workstation" that I designed and built in 2009 that has been getting substantial attention on Recording and Music Web Forums, plus these DIY Build Plans have been purchased by people from all over the world.
Why all the interest?
Primarily because it can be built for as little as $50 (using 1/2-inch plywood for desktop and monitor shelf) and only
requires floor space of 36-inches X 34-inches X 72-inches and it provides a ton of room.
The desktop is 60-inches X 24-inches deep and the monitor shelf is 72-inches X 12-inches.

These DIY Build Plans were purchased by Jaime Roden who mixed audio for Hit Movies:
Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban; Goblet of Fire; Order of The Phoenix; and the Half-Blood Prince,
National Treasure: Book Of Secrets,
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Narnia-Prince Caspian, Batman Begins, Sherlock Holmes, Hotel Rwanda, Mr. Beans Holiday, Basic Instinct 2 & many more.

my Homestudioguy "$80" Recording Studio Desk
In 2004-2005, I designed and built this Stealth Bomber looking "$80" Workstation/Desk with two 12-Space Rack Bays on each "Wing" and a Video Monitor Stand. What makes this desk and DIY Project "Unique" is it's Ergonomic "B1-Bomber" design, its capacity to house 24-spaces of Rack Rail and the fact that the entire desktop and monitor shelf pieces can be cut from one piece of 4ft X 8ft piece of plywood!

Believe it or not, this desk is what started the "HOMESTUDIOGUY.COM website.
In a "nutshell", “Recording Magazine” Editors, Lorenz Rychner and Mike Metlay,
considered my desk and desk design for a DIY article in 2005 as they thought it was a “Hot” design.
Unfortunately, my 14 pages of photos and instructions were too lengthy and detailed
and would have taken up ALL of the print space in one magazine edition.
As I couldn't share it in that manner, I built my Homestudioguy.com website in 2005 and the "$80" Workstation/Desk build information has been available here ever since.
Interestingly enough, once this project was up on my new website,
the Editors of the On-Line DIY "e-zine", "MAKE" got wind of it and featured in their December 2006 issue!
THE AVAILABLE BUILD PLANS ARE 14-PAGES WITH 27 COLOR PHOTOS.
my Homestudioguy $85* 12-18 Space Equipment Rack
This 12-space rack is one of my more recent "design and build" projects that I completed in 2012.
The Interior Rack Space is 36-inches high, 19-inches wide and 16-inches deep and provides just enough room for the pair of 12-space rack-rail and storage room below.
*You can make this cabinet "Totally Rack" by using 18-Space Rack Rail instead!
However, this modification will increase the Build Cost to $100ish as 18-Space Rack Rail will be $10-$15 more.
YOU CAN EASILY REDUCE THE BUILD PRICE OF THIS RACK CABINET BY REDUCING THE DEPTH FROM 16 TO 12-INCHES AND USING LOWER PRICED WOOD INSTEAD OF THE SPEC'D GLUED PANELS.

my Homestudioguy $10 ACOUSTIC PANEL MOUNTING UNIT
Below are photographs of the $10 DIY Acoustic Panel Mounting Unit(s) I designed and built in 2006 that was featured on the Website of ATS Acoustics of Illinois for quite a few years at http://www.atsacoustics.com/
This Unit has also received the "blessings" from the people at GIK Acoustics in Georgia http://www.gikacoustics.com/ and Ethan Winer, co-owner of "Real-Traps" in Connecticut http://www.realtraps.com/ .
The photos below show Compressed Fiberglass Acoustic Panels mounted into the units to the right of and left of mixing/listening area of my ($50 DIY) Recording Studio Desk (requiring 6-Acoustic Panel Mounting Units).

Recording Studio Room Acoustics continues to be one of the most important topics discussed in Recording Magazines, Websites, Forums, Workshops and Seminars primarily because the Acoustic Quality of the Room(s) in which you record, listen and mix in can have a major impact on the final results of your Audio Product.
Although there are many pieces of the Room Acoustics Puzzle, the piece I was able to research and address quickly and easy was to add 2' X 4' Compressed Fiberglass Acoustic Panels to my room in a manner:
1) That was Low-Cost:
(I purchased and covered Compressed Fiberglass Panels myself.)
2) That Increased Acoustic Panel Absorption:
(Panels are not required to be framed.)
3) That provided portability:
(Each mounting unit has only 2 hang points.)
4) That increased Low Frequency Absorption (LFA):
(LFA is increased due to increased distance between panel and wall *.)
(*based on acoustic principals of some)

my Homestudioguy $10 STUDIO AUDIO MONITOR STANDS
This Pair of Low-Cost DIY Audio Monitor Stands above is an easy build and can be done for as little as $10.
What makes them easy to build is that:
-The Speaker Platform (top) and Stand Base (bottom) are both cut from 1"X12"s
-The (L&R) Legs and (Top and Bottom) Leg Supports are cut from 2"X6"s.
-This project only requires Sixteen 3-1/2 inch and Sixteen 2-1/2 inch wood screws to pull it all together.
Of course, they aren't "Top-Of-The-Line" Acoustic Marvels BUT they do provide you with a quick and inexpensive way to get your studio monitors up to correct height for "Acoustically Correct" monitor listening.

In case you don't know, your audio monitors should be placed at about the same height as your head (top to bottom) when sitting at your list monitoring spot).

The Build Information for these are on the $10 Monitor Stand Plans Page here on homestudioguy.com

$5 DIY STUDIO EQUIPMENT STANDS
Below are photos of 2 Equipment Stands I built for about $5 each using some scrap wood pieces, pre-formed building metal straps/supports from Lowes and some screws.
The concept came from my U.S. "Patent Applied For" Stand that I designed and had fabricated to be used with the ART Tube MP (tm) line of preamps and similar ones build by other companies such as Bellari, dbx, Behringer and other clones of the ART Tube MP Models.
At some point in the future, I will have Build Plans available for these.
